Title: The Madness of Crowds Pdf Gender, Race and Identity
The challenging and brilliantly-argued new book from the bestselling author of The Strange Death of Europe.

In his devastating new book The Madness of Crowds, Douglas Murray examines the twenty-first century's most divisive issues: sexuality, gender, technology and race. He reveals the astonishing new culture wars playing out in our workplaces, universities, schools and homes in the names of social justice, identity politics and intersectionality.

We are living through a postmodern era in which the grand narratives of religion and political ideology have collapsed. In their place have emerged a crusading desire to right perceived wrongs and a weaponization of identity, both accelerated by the new forms of social and news media. Narrow sets of interests now dominate the agenda as society becomes more and more tribal--and, as Murray shows, the casualties are mounting.

Readers of all political persuasions cannot afford to ignore Murray's masterfully argued and fiercely provocative book, in which he seeks to inject some sense into the discussion around this generation's most complicated issues. He ends with an impassioned call for free speech, shared common values and sanity in an age of mass hysteria.

Insightful and Brave Following up on his excellent and insightful “The Strange Death of Europe,” British journalist Douglas Murray now offers an insightful take on identity politics. He will not be thanked, because the nature of woke politics is, as he himself outlines, the aggressive promulgation of irrational and extreme dogmas, not reasoned analysis. But for someone who wants to think through important social issues by himself, Murray does an excellent job of outlining various points of view—as well as some of the ideological drivers of woke politics, most of all the farce of so-called intersectionality. The four identities that Murray covers are gay, women, race, and trans. As far as gay (Murray himself is a homosexual), Murray’s basic point is that homosexuality is complex. He wrote before the recent large study that suggests that homosexuality is largely not genetic, but rather derives from other uncertain factors (some of which may occur in the womb), but he suggests much the same. He points out that homosexuality has posed a conundrum for millennia, and whatever the woke pushers of identity politics say, who themselves change their opinion twice a week, it’s likely to keep posing a conundrum. All this is true, but not au courant with the dogmas of the moment, as Murray well knows. Before covering women, Murray incisively outlines the Marxist foundations of identity politics and intersectionality, something worth the price of admission by itself. Then we get an equally complex analysis of women in society, including a rejection of the idea that power is unitary or easy to understand, and the actual war on men. This is followed by another “interlude,” about the impact of technology, by which Murray means the power, pernicious both of itself and as-exercised, of the Lords of Tech. He points out that if you search Google for “gay couples” you get many pictures, all of happy gay couples. If you search Google for “straight couples,” you get—pictures mostly of gay couples, intermixed with a few pictures of straight couples under headlines such as “Straight couples can learn from gay couples.” This is just one example of how we are manipulated to engage in identity politics. Then Murray moves on to race, covering all the laughable-yet-not-laughable recent horrors of the racial hucksters, from Evergreen State to the treatment of Nicholas Christiakis at Yale to the rank racism of New York Times columnist Sarah Jeong. And, finally, we get a dissection of the so-called trans phenomenon, again, as with homosexuality, noting the complexity, historical background, and irrationality of the woke dogmatists, which here have the most evil consequences, especially on children and troubled individuals.Murray’s basic point is that “these claims do not intersect, they derange.” His goal is to clear a path to reasoned discussion, with an explicit reference to the mineclearing technology when an explosive rope is shot across a minefield and detonated to clear a path. Unfortunately, those in power won’t read this book, and if they do, they’ll know to keep their mouth shut. Perhaps a better analogy would be that Murray has marched into the minefield, and is likely to get blown up himself—but at least that may help clear a path for sanity to be restored, and that will be enough.
